We are looking for a
Student Research Assistant - Military Strategy and Technology (gn)
part-time (15 hours per week). The selected candidate will work with Mauro Gilli and will be affiliated with the Centre for International Security and work on defense acquisition, defense industry, industrial re-shoring, and emerging technologies. The planned start date is 01 October 2025. The contract is limited for the Academic Year 2025/2026 and will end on 31 July 2026.
The Centre for International Security at the Hertie School is a research centre that seeks to inform the study and debate of the complex 21st-century security challenges facing Germany, Europe, and the world. The goals are to reach a global audience interested in German and European security issues, connect scientists with policymakers and civil society groups, inspire new minds in the field of security and prepare and influence the next generation of creative and innovative decision-makers.
Your tasks:
- Assistance in academic and policy research, including independent assignments.
Your profile:
- BA in international affairs
- Being enrolled at a German university for the duration of the contract
- Capacity to quickly absorb large amounts of information across different disciplines
- Willingness to explore new realms
- Familiarity with technological dynamics, industrial production, electronic warfare and defense acquisition
- Interested in military strategy and technology
- Familiarity and/or interest with defense debates from the past (e.g., AirLand Battle, Revolution in Military Affairs)
- Familiarity with chemistry and/or chemical engineering
