Job Title: Foreign Language Translator
Department: Base Operations
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly proficient Foreign Language Translator to facilitate effective communication between English-speaking personnel and foreign-national staff, contractors, and local community members. The ideal candidate will be a skilled linguist with a deep understanding of cultural nuances, capable of providing accurate and timely translation and interpretation services in a variety of settings, from administrative meetings to technical discussions.
Key Responsibilities:
Translation & Interpretation: Provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation during meetings, briefings, and training sessions. Translate written documents, including correspondence, reports, and technical manuals, accurately and efficiently.
Linguistic Support: Assist with the development of training materials and other documents for non-English-speaking personnel. Serve as a linguistic and cultural resource for the department.
Communication: Facilitate clear and effective communication, ensuring that all parties fully understand the information being conveyed.
Cultural Liaison: Act as a cultural liaison to help bridge communication gaps and promote positive relationships with the local community.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of all translation and interpretation requests and completed work.
Desired Qualifications:
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor's degree in linguistics, foreign languages, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in professional translation or interpretation. Experience in a military or governmental environment is a significant plus.
Technical Skills: Superior proficiency in at least one foreign language and English, both written and verbal. The ability to use translation software and other digital tools is essential.
Leadership: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to remain neutral and objective in all translation and interpretation duties.
Certification: A valid driver's license is required. Professional certification from a recognized translation and interpretation organization is highly valued.
Physical Requirements:
Primarily a sedentary role; however, some walking, standing, and lifting of light objects (up to 25 pounds) may be required.
Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work in various office and field environments.
