The Governance Department has currently 40 employees and is divided in 5 regional portfolios.
In the strategic business area of Governance, we concentrate on consultancy services related to Justice/Rule of Law, Peace & Security, Public Administration Reform, Public Financial Management, E-governance, Decentralization, Social Protection, Promotion of Civil Society, and Urban Governance.

This position will be part of our MENA portfolio, with the option to be based either at our headquarters in Hamburg or at our office in Berlin.
Your tasks
You work under guidance of a senior consultant with increasing responsibility in the following areas:
- Acquisition of new projects, including elaboration and coordination of technical and financial proposals in the field of decentralization, civil society, peace and security, public finance management and public administration reform
- Management of ongoing projects and studies (backstopping) on site and Hamburg-based (financial and technical administration, monitoring and evaluation of projects and studies)
- Networking with donor agencies, beneficiaries, partner companies or institutions, subcontractors and experts
- Participation in field missions
- Elaboration of reports, concepts and presentations and contribution to knowledge and quality management
- Representing GFA in conferences and seminars
Your profile
- University degree (MA) in political or social sciences, law, economics, international development or public administration
- 1 - 2 years of relevant work experience (incl. internships) in one or more of the above-mentioned fields
- Past work experience in developing countries / in development cooperation will be considered an asset
- Full proficiency in written and spoken English and working knowledge French (B2) is a prerequisite, German and Arabic is an asset
- Willingness to travel abroad and to remote areas
- Strong writing, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to manage complex situations under tight schedule
