We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Junior Laser Physicist to join our innovative team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about lasers, optical technologies, and lab-based experimentation. As a Junior Laser Physicist, you will work hands-on in the lab, aligning and testing laser diodes, learning about laser systems, and working with microoptics and microtechnology. You will also contribute to the development and optimization of optical alignment workstations and eventually take ownership of the product lifecycle, progressing into the role of Product Owner.
Key Responsibilities:- Laser Alignment & Testing: Perform hands-on alignment, calibration, and characterization of laser diodes, optical systems, and microoptics within the lab environment.
- Laboratory Work: Operate and maintain lab equipment such as spectrometers, optical power meters, lasers, and other measurement tools, ensuring precision and accuracy in experiments.
- Optical Design: Assist in the design and optimization of optical systems for laser diode applications, including microoptics, lenses, beam-shaping elements, and alignment systems.
- Development of Workstations: Contribute to the development and improvement of optical alignment workstations, incorporating both hardware and software to enhance productivity and precision.
- Hands-On Experimentation: Work closely with senior scientists and engineers to design experiments, analyze data, and identify opportunities for improvement in laser performance and packaging.
- Microtechnology & Microoptics: Work with microtechnology and microoptics components, helping to integrate them into laser systems and ensuring optimal functionality.
- LabVIEW & Automation: Utilize LabVIEW or similar software to develop automated test systems for monitoring and controlling experiments, capturing data, and generating reports.
- Product Development: As you gain expertise, you will gradually take on product ownership responsibilities, ensuring that all technical aspects of the product meet performance standards, timelines, and cost targets.
- Collaboration: Work alongside a cross-functional team of physicists, engineers, and product managers to optimize product performance, share insights, and contribute to product development.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate experimental records and provide detailed reports on lab work, experimental results, and improvements for ongoing projects.
- Continuous Learning: Stay current with advancements in laser physics, microoptics, and optical design technologies through research, training, and collaboration with senior team members.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field. A strong foundation in laser physics and optical systems is essential.
- Laboratory Skills: Experience working in a laboratory environment, including alignment, calibration, and testing of optical systems, lasers, and related equipment.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in LabVIEW or similar programming environments for developing automated testing systems and controlling lab equipment.
- Optical Design Knowledge: Understanding optical design principles, including beam shaping, lens systems, and microoptics. Experience with optical simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, COMSOL) is a plus.
- Mechanical Design: Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles, particularly in the context of optical alignment and integration. Familiarity with ceramics and their use in laser and optical systems is an advantage.
- Attention to Detail: Strong ability to troubleshoot and analyze experimental results, paying close attention to the smallest details to ensure precision and accuracy.
- Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills to document experiments, present findings, and work with cross-functional teams.
