We’re looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale Emma’s engineering organization (~70 people across 15 teams). You’ll own delivery, quality, and efficiency of software across our E-Commerce, Retail, Operations, Finance, and IT & InfoSec domains, working closely with Product and Data leadership to turn business goals into impactful technology.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and grow a 70+ person engineering team across 5 domains.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, business-impacting software at scale.
- Drive continuous improvement, incident management, and reliability.
- Partner with Product and Data to align tech strategy with company goals.
- Mentor and develop managers and senior engineers, raising the bar for leadership and execution.
- Oversee IT & InfoSec as part of the wider tech scope.
Who we’re looking for:
- Proven track record leading large engineering organizations (50+ people).
- Experience in tech-enabled companies, ideally e-commerce, retail, or supply chain.
- Strong technical foundation and history as a software engineer.
- Experience with scaling platforms, integrations, and incident management.
- Excellent communicator who can translate complex tech into business impact.
- Based in Portugal or Germany (Lisbon or Frankfurt preferred), with flexibility for remote work.
