At Focused Energy, we are developing NeoLyte, a breakthrough initiative that pioneers compact, laser-driven radiation sources (LDRS) based on high-power laser technology. These dual-mode sources combine MeV X-rays and fast neutrons in a single system. The platform is modular and enables real-time, non-destructive inspection of materials, even when those that are complex or shielded.
NeoLyte’s technology addresses critical challenges across nuclear waste analysis, contraband detection, infrastructure inspection, and medical isotope production. With its unique combination of resolution, material specificity, and deployment flexibility, LDRS opens up new possibilities far beyond conventional systems.
We bring together a cross-disciplinary team of laser and plasma physicists, engineers, and AI experts. We are building our first pilot facility in Biblis (Germany), with the goal to reach market readiness and commercial deployment quite soon.
Be part of shaping this deep-tech venture from the ground up! As our LDRS System Engineer, you’ll play a central role in translating our cutting-edge laser-driven radiation source technology into robust, integrated products. This position bridges science and engineering, ensuring that complex systems meet technical, operational, and regulatory requirements. You will be the glue between disciplines, aligning efforts across physics, software, hardware, and operations to deliver complete and compliant systems.
What you'll do:
Define and maintain system-level specifications and ensure alignment across teams
Drive requirements engineering, risk analysis, and system integration activities
Develop and manage product roadmaps in close collaboration with engineering and leadership
Secure implementation of learnings from system integration
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., IEC, OSHA, ISO)
Lead product-level design reviews and ensure consistent quality in review processes
Establish scalable systems engineering processes and build the foundation for a growing team
Who you are:
At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering or technical program management in a high-tech environment, ideally involving complex hardware-software systems
Strong background in requirements engineering and risk-based development methodologies across multidisciplinary teams
In-depth knowledge of engineering standards and safety regulations (IEC, ISO or ANSI) relevant to high-energy or safety-critical systems
Solid technical foundation in physics or engineering, with the ability to critically evaluate system designs and interfaces
Proficiency in German, and ability to travel to Darmstadt (Hessia, Germany) frequently
Preferred: Proven track record of managing system-level integration efforts from concept to prototype or product stage
