The Legal Department of J.P. Morgan Chase (JPMC) is responsible for the provision of legal services to the J.P. Morgan legal entities and is organized by Practice Groups that align to the organization of JPMC’s lines of business and internal functions. This structure encourages legal teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and internal functions, and for the lines of business and internal functions to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the legal teams in a timely manner.
As an Assistant Vice President attorney within our German Markets Practice Group, you will be responsible for providing legal advice to the internal functions and lines of business operated by JPMC across the European Economic Area and the EMEA region more generally. You will report to the Frankfurt-based Head of the German Markets Legal Team with close alignment to the Markets Legal teams based in London.
Job responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice to the Markets Business mainly based in Frankfurt, Paris and London on all German and European law matters.
- Provide advice and transaction support to, amongst others, the Derivatives, Repo, Securities Lending as well as the Retail Structured Products (RSP) Business
- Coordinate with and support outside counsel, as necessary, in legal matters related to these coverage areas.
- Advise on legal, regulatory and industry developments impacting the German Markets Business
- Contribute to select special projects and operational excellence initiatives, both long-term and short-term, within the legal team.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- German-qualified lawyer with experience in financial services matters ideally within a major law firm, credit institution, financial services provider, large multinational corporation, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with the legal and regulatory frameworks governing large financial institution products, services, and transactions in the above coverage areas, ideally with respect to structured products and/or derivatives, repos or securities lending transactions under German Master Agreement(s).
- Strong project management skills to effectively oversee legal initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex legal concepts clearly. Fluency in both German and English is essential for effective communication.
- Ability to develop and maintain robust relationships with internal and external clients.
- Confidence and experience in translating complex legal concepts into practical solutions.
- Creative problem-solving skills to address legal challenges innovatively.
