The Position
Are you a proven leader with the ability to guide an asset through the critical launch phase and beyond, maximizing its value for patients and Boehringer Ingelheim across multiple indications? In this role, you will take on the responsibility for developing and executing a competitive, externally-focused medical affairs strategy for Kidney diseases, ensuring alignment with therapeutic area priorities and global objectives. Your strategic input will be instrumental in shaping the overarching asset strategy while driving impactful plans and tactics across all indications and customer groups.
As part of your responsibilities, you will lead the development and continuous evolution of a competitive and integrated Asset Evidence Plan (AEP) that supports the asset’s success. You will design holistic stakeholder engagement plans tailored to meet the needs of key countries and manage a high-performing medical affairs team, including areas such as Real-World Evidence (RWE), Scientific Relations, and Medical Affairs. Additionally, you will play a key role in fostering the growth and development of your team, ensuring their mindset and skillset evolve in line with the rapidly changing landscape of our industry.

Tasks & responsibilities
- In collaboration with other key functions, key geographies, and the cross-TA Medical Affairs team, you will define the medical affairs strategy, objectives, and tactics for Kidney diseases. Ensuring compliance and alignment with legal and ethical requirements will be a central part of your responsibilities.
- Leading and developing a high-performing medical affairs team for Kidney diseases will be one of your key priorities. You will foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and psychological safety, while proactively managing team growth and turnover. Equipping your team with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve medical affairs objectives will be essential.
- Working closely with cross-functional global and key country colleagues, you will supervise and contribute to the preparation and approval of brand-focused core deliverables. Addressing the needs of US stakeholders will be a key priority among the focus markets.
- You will take ownership of the development and implementation of a differentiated evidence strategy and AEP. This will ensure the brand achieves maximal success and supports lifecycle management by aligning evidence generation with asset priorities.
- Building strong relationships with external stakeholders across the globe will be a critical aspect of your role. Together with local, cross-functional, and brand teams, you will ensure that medical affairs deliverables meet the diverse needs of stakeholders in key countries. Aligning stakeholder engagement plans with global and local priorities will allow you to maximize impact.
Requirements
- Experience with leading a Brand though its launch phase
- Expertise in advanced medical affairs (externally focused and competitive medical affairs strategies), advanced scientific affairs, RWE, health authority interactions, market development, advanced brand-specific disease and therapeutic area knowledge, and advanced knowledge and/or experience in the lifecycle stages of a medicinal product
- Comprehensive medical (incl. medical affairs) and scientific experience in pharmaceutical or related industry in specific brand, therapeutic and disease area and long term experience with medical and strategic responsibility in the international and country setting (US experience preferred)
- Proven ability to manage and lead large teams, mentor and develop talent
- Ability to develop, synthesize plans and execute on evidence needs of a Brand; experience in partnering with US and/or EU healthcare systems to co-design and co-execute evidence generation
- Sound medical and scientific leadership to drive high-priority projects in brand disease area in collaboration with global matrix teams, regional, and country counterparts and external partners
- Strong track record of collaboration with external expert community, regulatory authorities, international societies, patient advocacy groups, healthcare systems and other relevant stakeholders
- Executive presence, excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, as well as presentation and facilitation skills for leadership interactions at Boehringer
