You will join an elite team of 60 hands-on builders serving 1 billion students worldwide. If we execute on our product vision, you will have built something generational that transforms education globally.
This is your chance to be part of building a generational company.The problem you’ll solve: How do you design search that actually works in the age of LLMs - semantic, contextual, and blazing fast - for 20 Mio+ students using our platform?
Your ownership:
- Take full ownership of the search product, which is core to our platform and used by around 1/3 of our 1.5 million+ student users.
- Analyze user feedback and search performance using AI pipelines to identify and address gaps, especially around failed or unsatisfactory searches.
- Conduct extensive A/B testing to validate improvements and new features.
- Tackle the challenge of “What does search look like in the age of AI?”—combining modern search techniques with LLMs.
- Develop and experiment with new ways to use LLMs for query expansion, content understanding, and improved result ranking.
- Build and iterate on AI-driven features, such as semantic search, context-aware recommendations, and chat/companion integrations.
- Use search throughout the app to enhance AI features such as AI Chat, mock exam, Quizzes, …

You’ve built or significantly shaped a search product in a B2C environment, ideally one with millions of users. You’ve worked with tools like Elasticsearch, Vespa, or vector databases, and have integrated LLMs or AI pipelines into production systems.
Must-haves
- 3+ years in software engineering, with 2+ years working on search or IR-related systems
- Hands-on experience with search tech (Elasticsearch, Vespa, Solr, or similar)
- Proven experience applying LLMs or semantic AI to real-world search problems
- Native/fluent English; German is a plus
- Ready to work from our Berlin office 5 days/week (with some flexibility!)

Our Tech Stack
Our app is written in Flutter with Riverpod. Our Golang backend is powered by PostgreSQL and hosted on AWS with Kubernetes. Our AI stack consists of several LLM providers (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, and Mistral), custom routing engines, and fine-tuned models.
