Job Description:
In order to support the Airframe Architecture Department, Airbus Operations is looking for a
Masterand in the field of Airframe Architecture (d/f/m), title of thesis: Development of a sliding cargo door for the main deck of a freighter aircraft
You are looking for a master thesis and want to get to know the work of a job title? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in the Airframe Architecture Department as a Masterand (d/f/m)!
Location: Hamburg
Start: As soon as possible
Duration: 6 months
The aim of the master thesis is to develop the preliminary design concept of a sliding door for aviation application and in particular for implementation on the main deck of a freighter aircraft.
The A350 Freighter will be considered as a reference baseline aircraft but the concept shall be scalable for application on A320 like aircrafts too and eventually on smaller aircraft of the Airbus family. The work will start with a landscape investigation to identify all possible sliding door concepts already available in the transportation world (trains, buses, trucks, cars, helicopters, aircrafts and so on) and with the down selection of the most promising concepts for aviation application. The expectation is to identify at least 3 concepts. The down-selected concepts will be then further developed and compared by means of a design to value methodology and the best concept will be then identified. The final selected concept will be then developed in detail. The target of the master thesis is to fully develop one concept in CATIA and to size it by means of simple stress analysis methods in order to prove its feasibility in terms of weight, cost, manufacturability and other relevant values that will be defined during the thesis. Important is that the master thesis focuses on the sliding door and on its integration into the aircraft fuselage, and in particular on all elements needed for sliding the door. The standard structure of the door, the door contour and the latch&lock system will be taken from existing aircrafts and reused or modified as needed for the project. The sliding door concept will be finally compared to the current A350 Freighter solution.
