Master project on network clock synchronization (m/f/d)
This is a research position for a Master student with a minimum duration of 6 months.
Description
Clock synchronization plays a key role in enabling deterministic networking in different industrial domains, e.g., wide area networks, time sensitive networks, data center networks and power grid systems. A network with precise clock synchronization empowers novel applications that could not be supported before. This project aims to investigate several research challenges during clock synchronization, e.g., impact of clock noise on synchronization precision, schemes for accurate frequency skew estimation.
Your mission
- Establish an simulation environment for clock synchronization
- Simulate different noise sources in the aforementioned simulation environment
- Design schemes for accurate skew estimation, including an efficient sliding window mechanism, a robust outlier detection method and advanced control loop to compensate the offset.
- Evaluate the performance of the designed schemes in the simulation environment
Your areas of expertise
- Bachelor in Computer Science, Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, etc. Pursuing his/her Master study.
- SW and programming experience in network-relevant areas, including but not limited to network simulation (e.g., Omnest, Omnet++), IP protocol processing, configuration of network environments, Linux-level programming
- Background in networking fundamentals, e.g., routing, scheduling algorithms, and stochastic systems, clock synchronization related algorithms.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Must be eligible to work in the EU to be considered for this position
